Prepare For Your CCW Class

Successful completion of a CCW course is required to receive a Concealed Carry License in Ohio. This is a 12 hour course that prepares you to safely handle a handgun, assures you understand Ohio laws concerning concealed carry, and documents that you are comfortable and proficient in firing a handgun.

Jon is a certified instructor who will provide the training and guidance for the state application process. Courses are tailored to the experience, comfort level and needs of the participants and held on the firing range.

Lunch with Jon and other experts is provided where participants can ask questions and interact with each other and Jon.

Dates:  Weekends on Saturday or Sunday.  Weekdays and evening can be arranged also.

Time: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please make arrangements for extra time in the event the course runs longer.  The state requires the course be at least 12 hours.

Lunch is included.  You may want to bring drinks or snacks since it is a long day.  Brownies to share are always appreciated!

Cost: $75 new license Plus $10.00 if you choose to purchase the CCW Handbook

What to wear: The course proficiency with your handgun will be held out of doors. Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather: jeans or other long pants, shirts and blouses like a tea shirt or polo. Wear low heeled shoes that cover your feet. No sandals, heels or flip flops.  No low cut blouses or shirts.

Handguns: The course includes rental of handguns. This is an excellent opportunity to try different handguns to find the one that suits you the best. You may bring your own handgun if you wish.

After Your Class:
Call the sheriff's office to make an appointment to apply for your license.  Most sheriffs will NOT allow walk-ins to apply.  Check with your sheriff department to learn if you need to make an appointment or not.


Take your documents to the sheriff's office and apply for your license.  As part of your application you must: 
  1. Present your completed application, Certificate of Competency (or documentation of equivalent experience) and passport sized color photo.
  2. Present a valid photo I.D. such as your driver's license.
  3. Pass a criminal background check and mental competency check
  4. Pay a non-refundable fee by cash, money order, or certified check made  payable to your sheriff's office.  The fee is $67.00 if you have been an Ohio resident for more than five years.  $91.00 if less than five years.


The sheriff's department will take your fingerprints that will be submitted with your background check information.  This can take a week to 45 days to receive your license.
